SAM Gallery at TASTE Restaurant is pleased to present mixed media works by Seattle artists, Barbara Robertson and Amanda Knowles, at TASTE from March 17—June 14, 2009.

Barbara Robertson and Amanda Knowles work with the ephemera of science. As artists, they express the content in different ways: Robertson uses ideas related to space, motion and light, inspired by current scientific inquiry in the fields of physics, astronomy and biology. Knowles is interested in structure and her practice expresses a way of thinking and composing related to math, physics and engineering.

Both artists create intricate systems of visual information the roots for which touch the original idea, but spin off quickly into a personal, poetic abstraction.

TASTE Restaurant creates a cocktail each quarter that’s inspired by the featured artists. In honor of Amanda Knowles and Barbara Robertson, TASTE presents The Art Pearing:

The Art Pearing

1 ounce Absolut Pears
½ ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
½ ounce Fee Brothers Falernum
¼ ounce tart-cherry-infused light rum*
Float of sparkling wine

Fill a mixing tin 3/4 full with ice. Add Absolut Pears, fresh squeezed lime juice, Fee Brothers Falernum and shake vigorously. Strain into chilled martini glass.

Gently sink a tart-cherry-infused rum into the cocktail. Gently pour sparkling wine over the back of a bar spoon to float on top of cocktail. Garnish with two rum-infused cherries and a lemon twist.

* tart-cherry-infused light rum
Place 1 cup dried tart cherries and 2 cups light rum together in a sealable container and refrigerate. Taste cherries every day or so until desired infusion is reached. Cherries will keep in rum indefinitely
