TASTE’S Summer Cocktail Contest

On Saturday, June 2nd, TASTE Restaurant hosted our 2nd seasonally inspired Craft Cocktail Contest. Friends, family, and TASTE patrons came out to support the 4 chosen contestants as they were invited behind the TASTE bar to sample their drinks for a panel of judges. It was an exciting scene to watch as contestants crafted their seasonal  cocktail representing their own personal preference, creativity, and story.

The competition was friendly but stiff, (no pun intended) and after quite the deliberation, the panel of judges chose Serrah Russell and  ‘Violet Crush’ as the winning cocktail . What made this particular drink the winner? “It had a great personal story and complimented our own mission: Fresh and seasonal,” says TASTE Restaurant’s Event and Marketing Coordinator Jon Martini.

What did the winner receive? Serrah’s cocktail recipe will be  published in our  Summer Cocktail Menu as well as a $50 gift certificate to TASTE Restaurant. Above all else: Bragging rights, of course!

“Violet Crush”

Cucumber

2 oz Lavender Simple syrup

1 oz Lime Juice

2oz Gin

Angostura Bitters

Tonic

Muddle Three 1/2″ slices of Cucumber in a Collins glass with ice. Add in the Lavender Simple Syrup, Lime Juice and Gin.

Add a dash of Angostura Bitters and Tonic Water to taste. Stir, Garnish with a cucumber slice and enjoy.

Lavender Simple Syrup, 1 cup Batch: Boil 1 cup Sugar, 1 cup water, and 1/4 lavender blooms until dissolved. Dain out lavender and cool. For a deeper violet color, let the lavender blossoms soak overnight.

“I was inspired by the blush of flowers in the Spring and the longing for “cool” in the Summertime. I loved the color and nostalgia that the lavender brought to the drink as it paired with the cool/crisp of the fresh lime and sweet cucumber. I didn’t want the drink to be too complicated because in the summertime, time shouldn’t be spent inside shaking up obscure ingredients, but it should be spent with a mason jar full of something delicious out on a front porch swing. ”

Special thanks to:

Kristina Krug for organizing this event

The Contestants: Jay Bryant, Serrah Russell, Kristin Van Bodegraven, Sara Fleming
